چکیده

We present the first analysis of precipitation chemistry data from the Great LakesAtmospheric Deposition (GLAD) network of wet-only precipitation samplers. Lake loadings werecalculated from 1or 2-yr (1982-1983) volume-weighted mean ion concentrations and 30-yr meanannual precipitation amounts, using an objective analysis method to interpolate measurements to a40 x 40 km square grid over the Great Lakes region. The results show that atmospheric loadings ofCd, Pb, and other cations to the Great Lakes are in many cases considerably smaller than thoseestimated from the bulk precipitation measurements of the early 1970s. For Pb, some portion of thedifferences can be accounted for by the decrease in emissions that resulted from reductions in the Pbcontent of gasoline. Valid dry deposition in the bulk samplers also accounts for a portion of thedifferences. However, for the most extreme differences, contamination of the bulk collectors byresuspended local surface dust is likely to be a major cause. Good agreement was noted between theprecipitation-only loadings derived from the GLAD data and those recently given by Strachan andEisenreich (1987).ADDITIONAL INDEX WORDS: Trace metals, atmospheric deposition, pollution load, toxicsubstances.

Evaluation of heavy metals from desert dust in rangeland ecosystems of Khuzestan province

Extended abstract 1- Introduction Desert dust is formed under the influence of special weather and environmental conditions in desert areas and enters the atmosphere. Local hurricanes caused by surface air instability, passing through dry deserts, remove silt and sand particles from the surface and enter the atmosphere. Desert dust physically, in addition to its ecological effects such as lun...

Bioassessment of Heavy Metals in Wheat Crop from Soil and Dust in a Coal Mining Area

Coal mining and related industry can increase heavy metals (HMs) concentrations in soil, atmosphere and wheat, thereby posing metal-associated human health risk via food ingestion.  In this study, 58 samples of soil, wheat, and dust were collected from Xuzhou coal mine eastern China, six kinds of HMs Pb, Cd, Cu, Zn, As and Cr were studied for their spatial distribution in wheat, enrichment in d...

Susceptibility Zoning of Dust Source Areas by Data Mining Methods over Khorasan Razavi Province

Extended abstract Introduction Dust storms are natural hazards that effect on weather conditions, human health and ecosystem. Atmospheric processes are directly affected by the absorption and diffusion of radiation by dust, and dust in the cloud acts as a nucleus of congestion. The main dust areas in the world are flat topographically dry areas with erosion-sensitive soil and poor vege...

Human Health Risk Assessment of Cadmium Exposure in Dry Deposition of Atmospheric Dust (Uncertainty Analysis)

Background and purpose: The atmospheric suspended particulate matter is a major route of human exposure to different kinds of environmental pollutants especially toxic heavy metals. The aim of this study was to assess the carcinogenic and non-carcinogenic risk of cadmium in dry deposition of atmospheric dust in Qazvin, Iran. Materials and methods: Glass traps were used for sampling dry atmosp...
